What should you expect when worshiping with the Capital City Church of Christ?

When you visit our congregation, you'll find a focus on doctrine, fellowship, and scriptural New Testament worship. We seek to follow the pattern of worship outlined in the pages of the Bible.

Congregational Singing

Likely the first thing you'll notice when worshiping at our location is the singing. The entire congregation sings! We sing because the Bible tells the church to "sing and make melody in our hearts to the Lord" (Ephesians 5:19, Colossians 3:16). We do exactly as the Bible outlines - no more, and no less. As such, our singing is acapella (without musical instruments).

Prayer

When we are gathered together as Christians, we offer prayers to God (Acts 2:42). Typically, a member is selected to lead the church's thoughts by offering a prayer of thanksgiving and requests needed by the minds of those in the assembly.

Bible Teaching

We know that the word of God holds the keys to every good work (2 Timothy 3:16), so we gather together collectively to study it and edify one another. (1 Thessalonians 5:11). Our teaching is carried out by members of the congregation, and the whole church comes together to learn (1 Corinthians. 14:23). As such, we do not offer Sunday School, or implement the Bible Class system. Instead, we follow the simple pattern for teaching found in the New Testament.

The Lord’s Supper

The Lord's Supper (or Communion) is observed every Sunday (Acts 20:7), and is observed according to the pattern found in the New Testament. (Matthew 26:26-28, Mark 14:22-24, Luke 22:19-20, 1 Corinthians 11:23-29). A single loaf of unleavened bread (representing the body of Jesus Christ) is blessed, and members will pass it from one to another, all partaking of it. In the same manner, a single cup containing fruit of the vine (the communion of the blood of Jesus Christ) is blessed and passed from member to member until all have partaken of it.

Collection

Christians are commanded to take up a collection of funds every first day of the week as we have been prospered (1 Corinthians 16:1-2). These funds are used to assist in the spread of the gospel and to care for the needy among us. If you are a visitor, please feel no obligation to contribute - the church does not ask for your money. This collection is the responsibility of members of the church.
